Plaster that scrapes feet and snags suits has lost its top layer. It also grabs algae and scale.
Mineral and metal staining set into the surface. Acid washing buys a little time, and thins the plaster doing it.
Plaster lifting from the shell. Tap it and it sounds hollow. It only spreads.
Gray patches or rust bleeding through mean the plaster is gone in that spot and rebar is getting wet.
Often goes with a replaster since the pool is drained anyway. Cheaper to do it once.
Old, rough plaster holds algae and throws off chemistry. Sometimes the surface is the problem, not the water.

Calcium scale on the waterline tile, removed by bead blasting or hand descaling depending on the tile. Desert water puts it back over time; a yearly clean keeps it in check.

For a straightforward replaster, plan on the pool being out of use for a couple of weeks: drain and chip-out, any tile or coping work, the new surface, then filling and the startup period. Bigger scopes with new coping and tile run longer. We give you a schedule with the quote.
Yes. Plaster crews work early and the heat is manageable with the right timing. Fill water and startup chemistry need more attention in summer, and we handle that. Many customers plan remodels for the shoulder seasons when the pool is used less.
Where the city requires one, yes: equipment, gas, electrical, and structural work. A like-for-like replaster usually doesn't need one, and we'll tell you which applies. All of it is performed under CSLB C-53 license #1063945. Ask any contractor for their license number and check it on the CSLB site before you sign anything.
It fixes surface problems: rough, stained, delaminating, or cracked plaster. It does not fix plumbing leaks, a leaking light niche, or structural cracks in the shell. If we suspect any of those, we find them before the plaster goes on, not after.
White plaster is the lowest cost and shortest life. Quartz aggregate adds durability and color options. Pebble finishes last longest and hold up best to hard desert water and heavy use. We'll walk you through samples at the store.

Yes. Cracked tile, loose coping, calcium removal on the waterline, and handrail installs are all standalone jobs, usually done with the water level lowered rather than the pool drained.

Pool and spa rails installed ordered over a month ago. Was called twice saying ready to install tomorrow, when install schedule for 8/14. Pool rail not available on 8/14 install date. You have a scheduling/communication problem. Install team was fine.
